"The lake was more beautiful than other lakes"

With these words author Birgit Th Sparre begun her first book in her novel series "Estates around the Lake", and she was refering to lake Åsunden.

The estates of Åsundsholm and Sjöred are two of the manors around the lake made famous in Sweden through Sparre's novel series Gårdarna Runt Sjön (the Estates around the lake), written in the 1920s. The destinations around the lake are now one of the largest tourist attractions in Ulricehamn.

Sparre's childhood home was Sjöred and following her step father's death in 1919, her mother initiated the construction of Åsundsholm, to which they moved at completion in 1920. Sparre composed most of her books at Åsundsholm and her well used typewriter is still to be found here.

Situated on the eastern shore of the lake, Åsundsholm is since 2001 owned and run by the Gunnardo family.
